Hey Thursday friends,

Sometimes I don’t know how my food pictures come across. I guess it’s like posting a pic of yourself on a dating app: you may think you look really hot in a particular picture, but then it gets no traction and you sit there in your rocking chair, knitting a sweater, dreaming of a better life. Wait, what was I talking about? Oh ya, my food pictures.

Take these baked beans that I made on Tuesday night. To me, if I saw this picture, I would want to jump through the screen and dive right in like Ann Margaret in Tommy:

But I guess I could also imagine a scenario where you find this picture totally disgusting? And that Ann Margaret clip totally disgusting? Or maybe I’m overthinking it?

Either way: these beans were amazing! I used this recipe from Rancho Gordo’s site because I had a bag of his yellow eye beans left over from quarantining and I also had bacon and molasses and mustard and vegetables and so it was a no-brainer.

Here’s the Instagram Reel I made of the whole process. Hopefully you’ll find it helpful:

I actually have a bunch leftover from last night, so guess what’s for dinner? (Actually, not sure I want beans again tonight. But let’s just pretend.)

Hey, what’s your attitude about roasting peppers?

I always think it’s a hassle but then the other day I came home from the farmer’s market with these yellow beauties, an Italian variety.

Then I broiled them like Drew Barrymore in Firestarter. You want to get them black all over — takes about 15 minutes.
