Hey Thursday friends,
It’s predictable old me, attempting another New Year’s Diet at the start of 2022. Don’t worry: this time I’m doing it mindfully and I even had a therapy session about it yesterday with Dr. Deanie Eichenstein, which you can listen to here:
So what’s my plan of attack?
Salads! Salads! Salads!
Well not JUST salads. I’m trying to avoid carbs, sugar, and alcohol during the week. So dinners have featured chicken, salmon, string beans, hanger steak, and beans; and lunches have been beautiful salads made with ingredients that I picked up on Sunday at the farmer’s market.
On my most recent trip, I picked up purple cabbage, Tuscan kale, Medjool dates, lots of citrus (blood oranges and Cara Cara oranges, which are pink on the inside and maybe my favorite thing about living in California?), sugarsnap peas (not normally in season, but they were there, so I bought them), Asian pears, radishes, kohlrabi, and romaine.
My diet advice for a food lover is this: go to a farmer’s market and give yourself permission to buy as MANY fruits and vegetables as you want. Pretend you’re a kid in a candy store — the more that you buy, the more that you’ll have to play with during the week.
My other advice for the reluctant salad maker is this: Parmesan or Pecorino in the food processor.
