She's My Cherry Pie (And Now She's Yours Too) 🍒🥧
Plus: Little Gem Salad, "E.T. Phone Home" Peanut Butter M&M Cookies, and Olive Oil Cake.
Hey everyone,
Hope you had a good Memorial Day! We actually had zero Memorial Day plans and Craig took the car, so I was home alone and started craving cherry pie. If I’ve learned anything in my food life so far, it’s this: always trust your cravings.
I used Instacart to get some cherries sent my way and then got to work, making a pie crust (this time with my hands) and pitting all those cherries one by one.
Before I knew it, I had a gorgeous cherry pie baking in the oven and the apartment smelled oh so good. And now the recipe can be yours too! Paid subscribers will have access to it below. I typed out the whole thing and saved it as a PDF so you can print it.
Let’s see… what else is new?
We had our pals Ben and J over on Saturday night to watch E.T., their first time. (We were all sobbing!) For dinner, I cooked up my favorite sheet pan pizza.
I also made a scrumptious salad featuring little gem lettuce, fennel, radishes and a garlicky celery dressing that was basically a dollop of Dijon, celery vinegar, 2 cloves of grated garlic, and enough olive oil to make it emulsify. Plus Parmesan to give it a Caesar vibe.
Doesn’t that look good?
For dessert, I made monster cookies except instead of regular M&Ms, I used peanut butter M&Ms to replicated the Reese’s Pieces from E.T. (I couldn’t find actual Reese’s Pieces at Gelson’s, go figure.) The recipe is included for paid subscribers too! Wow, these paid subscribers are really making out like bandits.
Finally, our friends and neighbors Tony and Anthony had us over for dinner last Thursday and boy were they nervous to cook for such a culinary luminary!
Actually, they weren’t nervous at all. Anthony cooked up a delicious chicken and rice dish with all the fixings. It was so nice not to be the cook for once. Thanks, fellas, for a nice dinner. Here’s the olive oil cake that I brought; recipe from the NYT.

That’s all for today, folks!
Again if you’d like the recipes for the cherry pie and “ET Phone Home” Peanut Butter M&M cookies, they’re for paid subscribers below.
See you back here on Thursday!
Your pal,
Adam
