Book Review: 'The Upstairs Delicatessen,' by Dwight Garner - The New York  Times

Hey everyone,

It’s that time of year: the time where I share my reviews of all of the books that I read over the past 365 days. This year, instead of using Goodreads, I kept a secret Book Journal on my computer that I’m copying and pasting into this newsletter. Since I have my own novel coming out in May, I figured I should be a bit more discreet about my book reviews and share them only with my beloved readers, that being you.

I read a ton of books this year. My favorites, off the top of my head, were: The Bee Sting, Cassandra at the Wedding, True Grit, All Fours, and James. What do they have in common? Well they’re all funny, though they each grapple with some pretty heavy stuff. I think that’s my sweet spot. There’s one book that I read a hundred pages of and gave up on and that’s Herzog by Saul Bellow… more on that below. Okay, let’s dive in.
