When I make apple crumble, I first bake the apples for 30 minutes or so, then add the crumble and bake another 30 minutes. The effect is similar (but the effort a lot less 😉)
Perfect timing! I make the NYT Sifton apple pie where you pre-cook the fruit too. I get a ton of compliments. Do you blind bake the crust for an apple pie?
No blind baking here... Erin says to bake in the lower 3rd for a crisp bottom and then to move to the upper 3rd to get it more brown towards the end, so that's what I did.
