We use plastic quart yogurt containers, filled with some space at the top. We fill them with everything, such as homemade turkey stock, extra soup made from said stock, and compote made from stone fruit from our trees.

The jars may not have broken because of overfilling. Only certain ball jars can be placed in the freezer. I found that the hard way as well!

haha, after i just left the comment about the glass jars not being freezer friendly, now i see the update! too funny. rip stock. (actually, i have to be totally honest - when this happened to me, i put the whole broken jar in a strainer lined with coffee filters over a bowl and...i still used the stock. the glass was in big pieces and i was only feeding myself and i like to live dangerously and hate wasting a literal entire day's worth of work, what i can i say.) i use the ziploc "twist n loc" round containers, they're the best quality and they don't leak or get grimy or otherwise screwed up when you microwave them.

that tagine is GORGEOUS, excellent steal, and the food from that party looks so festive and delicious. home runs all around.

I'm sorry to hear about the jars cracking. When I read the OP, I thought to myself...ummm, that may not end well (only b/c I have done the same thing w/the same results!). Ball makes freezer containers esp for this purpose. And you scored w/the white elephant. I've had many a good gift stolen from me over the years but thats part of the fun!
